Time Passages:  A Musical Journey Through the History of Opera

A concert featuring songs, arias and art songs from the 17th-21st century.  Join soprano Andrea Anelli and ContempOpera Cleveland artists for an afternoon of beautiful and evocative musical selections from operatic and vocal repertoire spanning five centuries.  This entertaining performance will feature the work of diverse composers beginning with the 17th century Jean Baptiste Lully and traveling through the work of W.A Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, Franz Lehar, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many others.

ContempOpera Cleveland's free concerts presented throughout Northeast Ohio

The one-act opera, Mary Chesnut, tells the true life story of one woman's journey through one of the most traumatic events in American history, "the war between the states", providing a rare glimpse into a personal experience of the horror of war from a woman's perspective.  Honest and transparent in his approach, composer Steven Mark Kohn allows Mary to tell her own story, and the audience to form their own judgements, as witnesses of her transformation.

The perfect excuse for a night out in Cleveland’s historic “Little Italy” neighborhood!  Enjoy an entertaining, inspiring performance of diverse, accessible works by this season’s gifted featured composers, including selections from, “Riders of the Purple Sage”, by Craig Bohmler and librettist, Steven Mark Kohn, which received its celebrated world premiere at Arizona Opera in 2017.

The concert features Andrea Anelli, soprano, Brian Keith Johnson, baritone, Jeanette Davis, pianist and the work of legendary composer/arrangers Hall Johnson, Harry.T. Burleigh, William L. Dawson,  Edward Boatner, William Grant Still, as well as contemporary composer/arrangers Moses Hogan, Joseph Joubert and Darryl Curry.
